Live feedback and recommendations
The Windows and Mac apps provide live feedback on your flow and fatigue and recommend deep work, shallow tasks, or taking a break. This is visible in the Pylot app, and the overlay/widget, as shown in the images below.
Flow and Fatigue Dials
Live flow and fatigue dials provide feedback on your current cognitive performance. The level is graded as Lo, Mid, or Hi to accompany each dial.
Flow can be a rapidly changing metric so it will likely move around quite a lot. Flow is the most important measure of cognitive performance and high flow is associated with optimal performance. This is the state where you are completely absorbed in your work. You are concentrating but relaxed at the same time.
Fatigue assesses your mental fatigue, and a slow-changing value. Higher levels of fatigue can impair cognitive performance and your ability to achieve high flow. A break is the best solution in these instances.
Recommendation
Accompanying the dials is a recommendation to do deep work, shallow tasks or to take a break. This recommendation will 15 minutes into a work block, and will continually updated based on your recent and current cognitive performance.
In summary, high flow and low-moderate levels of fatigue will result in a deep work recommendation, while if you are consistently in low flow, shallow tasks are recommended. A break is then recommended if fatigue gets to higher levels.
